Integrating sleep
Misfit
In 2015 The Fossil Group took acquisition with startup company, Misfit.
Their experience in wearable tech was sought of valuable significance due to their size and tenacity to experiment.
Several integration began to take place and one of them was their mobile platform.
Together Fossil and Misfit would integrate Sleep into the mobile ecosystem.
User analysis
Good Research can save resources
In all of our testing and user feedback the most common information that we received
from our users was the experience of "Piece of Mind"
"Chicken or the Egg"
The results when a user knew they slept efficiently the night before their sleep performance increased positively.
When a user would see negative performance, they became irritated yet motivated to change their sleep habits.
Fossil Q
Sleep integration
The architecture of Fossil Q was setup in a modular manner in order to adopt new features seamlessly.
On-boarding Process
"Keep it simple stupid"
95% of Fossil's buyers in wearables are new user's that are seeking a lifestyle experience versus
a very stark and sporty experience like Garmin wearables.
-
Since Fossil Q is geared towards keeping the user's focus on the watch
it is very important to maintain the on-boarding experience in Fossil Q as a "do it and forget it" action.
During the time of Fossil Q Sleep integration, the debut of the "Fossil Hybrid watch" (FHW) had taken place.
Tutorials for both hybrid watches and digital had to remain the same to avoid conversion
with multi-product users.
The color purple was chosen due to its likeliness to neurological states in the brain.
Sleep is often categorized in the fitness category for wearables however we wanted to separate the two
as sleep represented mental recovery for Fossil's experience.
Dashboard Visualization
Like Misfit's mobile app the home screen tracks data in a radial fashion similar to a watch.
The high charts reveal a deep analysis to sleep patterns allowing the user to compare their past sleep patterns.
Sleep Edit
Editing the sleeps goals was another area that we wanted the interface to mirror the user's device, so that there is instant recognition to its function.
Settings
Settings were treated as a customization panel catered to the user's needs.
The lightweight font and spacial relationships of the graphics help remove the clinical feel
that most wearable apps have.
